Since 2013 I have had a blog running with Jekyll on Github. It has been stable and reliable but I ran into a problem: inertia. Whenever I felt like writing a post, I was usually away from my desktop. When I was nearby, I had to remember the scripts to bootstrap a new post, make sure my Ruby environment was up to date so I could run the local server, etc. There were just too many steps getting between me and writing something up.

I recently started trying to organize my numerous side projects into something a bit easier to track, basically a personal Kan Ban board (a post for later) which has a column for writing blog posts for those projects that I think would merit it. In order to help me actually write those posts, I decided to move off of my git-based blog and onto a cloud-based platform. Hashnode seemed like the right fit: lightweight, write anywhere, developer/maker focussed, HTTPS on a custom domain, and automatic backups to git so I have an offline history.

This post is both a reminder to myself to write more, as well as something to look back on later, should I find the need to migrate away. Here's to a good experiment!
